I had a great time seeing music last night at The Monkey House. I met up with Nathan Curtis around quarter of 9 and we drove to Winooski. We were in and settled about 9, chatted briefly with Chris Farnsworth about how his band was going to play Yes covers a half time […]
I had a great time seeing music at Nectar’s last Saturday. It was a long work day, and I had to be up early on Sunday, but I could not pass up a chance to give some money to the Henry Street Deli and see one of my favorite bands, who were set […]
Nice review of our show from Tim’s Triangle Tribune. Thanks Tim!
I had a great time seeing music tonight at the New City Galerie. I worked until 7, got home about 7:15, was out the door at 7:30 and downtown around 7:45. I had scouted the venue the day before on the way home from my radio show, but despite my best intentions I only caught the last half song by opener Sean Hood, who goes by the name of Eastern Mountain Time. It sounded nice but I was just getting settled when he wrapped up.
Up next was the oddest of the odd, one of my favorite heavy rocking bands, Black Rabbit, playing acoustic. They went on at 8 and Marc Scarano and Darlene Scarano played a pretty sweet set/ She played electric bass and he played acoustic guitar, and they opened with a couple of newish…

A review of our 12/5/14 show by Tim Lewis. Thanks Tim!
I had a great time seeing music on December 5th. Work was really intense and I had been putting in 10 hour jam packed days. I did the radio show Thursday night, did not get much sleep and the long work day just about put me down. There was lots of great music happening that night. Dino Bravo VT and Crazyhearse were at The Monkey House, ROUGH FRANCIS were celebrating their birthday at Radio Bean with Blue Button and 4-5 other bands. I got out too late to make the Winooski show and did not have a few hours of rock in me. I wanted to go nowhere but though I might possibly be able to handle seeing two bands at Manhattan Pizza and Pub. I yanked my face out of my hands and forced myself out the door.
It was a warm night and an easy walk…

I had a great time seeing music last Friday at The Monkey House. I took a bus to Shelburne in the early evening and picked up my brother and a car. Ken and I arrived at the club a bit early and just hung out and chatted with Marc Scarano and Darlene Scarano. After a bit Eric and Nathan Curtis, from work, showed up. It was just after 9:30 when Black Rabbit hit the stage. They came out swinging with a heavy fast version of Mark My Words. I thought Jane Boxall would add a lot to the sound, but her drumming just blew me away. It was like she gave every note it’s own weight and used that to add an extra dimension to the songs. It was almost like seeing them for the first time. They ran through…

I had a great time seeing music last night. I knew there was no way I could see all that I wanted, but set up an ambitious plan and carried it through. I got out of work at 7 and did a quick turn around and was at Radio Bean a little after 8. Milton Busker was on and playing his heart out on acoustic guitar. His playing was subtle and exciting at the same time. His songs evoked a full band, but it was just him on stage. I was pretty mesmerized for the set until the last song where he just rocked hard and I bopped around in joy.
After he finished I headed to Juniper and saw Swale play in a lobby. There were a bunch of people sitting around chatting and Swale set up and played a bunch of their most gentle songs. Gorgeous versions of…

I had a great time seeing music last night at The Monkey House. The theme was anti-Valentine’s Day and the 5 bands rocked loud, fast and hard. I knew from walking home from work that the walking to Winooski would be a bit rough, so I allowed an extra 5 minutes. I walked in just as Nautica were starting to play. I spent the first song settling in and listening from the back. They played high energy rock and roll with some nice melodies. I moved up front for the second song and started to find the groove for their set. The three piece, guitar/vox, bass, drum, played Song 6 second, and it put me in a happy place. Most of the songs in the set will be recorded on the upcoming Winter EP. All of the songs were good, and they and a crazy fun energy. The black…
